“We are fighting for Humanity, whether they like it or not.” – Red Jack

In a universe touched by Mythic energies, a familiar landscape has become the front of a gruesome war. Three faces leer over the tug of war in England during the Gothic Age. In a time of such hostility, enemies can prove more numerous than the stars in the sky.

The citizens of England are in the dark. The Temple, a strong group of devoted priests are leading their followers into the maw of a demonic deity. With the guise of purity and truth masking their ambitions from the whole of society, several of their finest soldiers are having second thoughts.

For their traitorous opinions of the Temple’s goals, these few true avatars of light were purged and slain brutally. However, for every act against the balance, one is made to set things right. The slain knights were awakened from their graves as Revenants, knowing that they would be charged with stopping the Temple’s rise to complete domination.

However, the Temple, wise as they are devious, was quick to act. Learning of the rise of the Revenants, they twisted lies and spun falsehoods upon Humanity. Soon the Temple had a willing army of witless devotees, prepared to throw their lives away at the onslaught of demonic undead.

Those that did not join the Temple formed their own milita forces, in order to prevent the rivers of blood from flowing into their homes and safehavens. The strings had been pulled to their tightest point. Humanity was fighting against the Revenants, to stop their ‘unholy charge’, while the Temple marched against both sides. The scene of Gothique has been set.

The Gothique Universe

Gothique is a multi-faceted story system that will eventually contain many forms of gameplay. These will range from a pen and paper type of roleplay, to a card game, to a miniatures tactical tabletop game.

All of these forms are under construction, but the best way to finish any of them is with tests. With that in mind, this is a quickset version of Gothique, more or less a hybrid between pen and paper style games, and online interactive novels. Quickset Gothique is for people who like the draw of immersed statistic based games, but are turned away by the concept of lengthy setup times. Here we will be covering the basic rules of play, the necessary materials, and the process of getting started.

The first step is to gather the necessary supplies. Primarilly, the players will need a vivid imagination. As quickset does not require detailed miniatures or maps, a vast majority of distance and detail will be mental. Beyond that, several pieces of paper will be required, two or three per player will do. Lined or graph is best, but printer paper will work as well. Enough writing impliments to go around are also important. You will need at least three six sided dice for the group. Feel free to have your own, as one twenty sided die will also be needed for the group.

Now that the supplies for the players have been met, the Overseer ( or story teller ), will also need several sheets of paper, four or five should be fine, and a writing impliment. A place to keep written notes and statistics out of the eyes of curious players may also be required, or the honor system works. The Overseer will need to have a strong imagination, as well as the ability to speak clearly and with enough volume to be heard, as the entity of the campaign will reside inside the Overseer’s head.

That’s it for supplies. Now, for shopping ease, this is the same list reformatted.

    For players:

3 sheets of lined or graph paper
    1 writing impliment
    3 six sided dice
    1 twenty sided die
    1 imagination

    For Overseers:

5 sheets of lined or graph paper
    1 writing implement
    1 privacy screen
    1 imagination
    X snacks and drinks

That will cover supplies. For the record, X is equal to the number of players minus the ones you don’t like. This covers the needed supplies for getting started, the next bit of rules can be found at the Characters, Guidelines, and Terms pages appropriately.
