FrameworksSometimes the job in the Local Spur requires a little more than human ingenuity, and in those cases that is when a Framework is applied. Frameworks have been used in many ways over the centuries; construction, excavation, even combat. They are known by many different names depending on the culture -- most popularly as mechs. Depending on the design of a framework, it can be made to suit just about any need, but each need starts with the mechanization of the equipment itself. Frameworks come in many shapes in the Red Star Chronicles, but there are only four basic size categories for them. Base Framework chassis are listed below with the standard details for each classification, and the various equipment and systems below that.
All Frameworks no matter what size chassis require a control system and space for the operator. While this function is included in the Base Cost for the chassis, the system does require 2 Equipment Slots. The required location slots are specified in the expanded details for each chassis. Frameworks take damage in the same way that characters do; when a Framework is reduced to 0 Structural Hit Points it is considered disabled and no longer functional; it cannot move, make attacks, or use any special actions provided by other systems until it is restored to at least 1 Structural Hit Point. Similarly, if it takes damage that meets or exceeds the Frameworks Damage Threshold, it is moved -1 Step on the Condition Track. If it is moved to the final step of the Condition Track, it is considered disabled immediately. If the attack that would reduce the Framework to 0 Hit Points also exceeds its damage threshold, it is destroyed beyond repair, and any occupants of the Framework take half the damage from the destructive attack. Framework Defenses are dependent largely on the pilot, and are assisted by various systems and factors including the Chassis Size. Use the formulas below for calculating Reflex Defense, Fortitude Defense, and Damage Threshold.
Using these formulas as a guideline, a basic Large Framework under the control of a skilled lv.2 pilot with a Dexterity score of 14 would have the following defenses:
Framework Equipment and SystemsCustomization of hardware and equipped systems is what allows for such a wide variance of Framework options. The individual chassis vary little by base design on their own, largely a series of hydraulics and stabilization servos connected to an exoskeleton designed to take the brunt of the workload. Below are the various adjustments that can be made to a Framework listed by system type.
