Outdated GearAs time goes by, technology improves on all fronts. This includes even the tried and true methods of combat. Guns will always be effective, but newer weapons may be more effective. Perhaps they use a nearly antiquated form of ammunition, or they aren't designed to provide the same impact as more modern designs. Outdated weapons decrease their die type by one step ( from d12 to d10, d10 to d8, d8 to d6, or d6 to a minimum of d4; if already at d4, apply a -1 Power Penalty to damage rolls ). Additionally, Ranged Weapons with this quality misfire on a roll of a Natural 1; the round was not chambered properly, or the power pack was not flush with the conductors. Resolving a misfire requires spending 2 Swift Actions, and the misfired shot is considered spent. Outdated Range Weapons can only use Standard Ammunition, but its cost is normal for the weapon type. Outdated armor uses older and less efficient materials, and may be bulkier and more cumbersome than more modern forms. Increase the weight of all armor by 25%, and apply an additional -1 Equipment Penalty for all rolls that are impacted by Armor Check Penalties. Characters with an Armor Proficiency one step higher than the Classification of the armor disregard the additional penalty, but not the weight. Characters wearing Outdated Heavy Armor can only reduce this penalty with a Feat?, Talent, or other feature that otherwise reduces Armor Check Penalties. The Outdated quality can be removed by using the Refit Antiquated Vehicle or Weapon? feature of the Mechanics Skill. Cost: -50% of the items Base Cost.
Restrictions: This quality cannot be applied to Simple Weapons.
Special: Any additional Qualities or Modifications to Outdated items cost an additional 10% of the Base Cost. Treat finding a seller ( but not the purchase ) of Outdated equipment as though it has the Rare Availability tag.
