PrototypeBy its very nature, a Prototype is far from finished. While it is functional, it certainly shows that it is a work in progress. Prototype items are frequently unstable, capable of catastrophic failures, or unparalleled success. Their in-progress nature allows them to take advantage of further modifications than most equipment; Prototypes can be adjusted with two modifications from the Tech Specialist Feat? instead of the one typically allowed. There are additional drawbacks, however. Prototype Weapons rely on unproven technologies and mechanisms, and are often prone to failure. Attack Rolls of 2, 3, or 4 are also treated as though they are a Natural 1 ( thus automatically missing ). Additionally, weapon becomes disabled on a roll of 1 - 4 until it can be fixed using the Repair? function of the Mechanics Skill. Prototype Armors may have unexpected faults that can expose them to significant damage despite their cutting edge technology. When subject to a critical hit, the wearer takes an additional 1 die of damage prior to multiplication. The Prototype quality can be removed by using the Refit Antiquated Vehicle or Weapon? feature of the Mechanics Skill, however it requires twice the time and materials cost as a standard refit.
