Sniper Rifle

Perhaps the most iconic piece of military hardware, the sniper rifle has been a symbol of power and skill since the early days of trench warfare. Best used at great distances with preparation, sniper rifles are not intended to be used in close quarters or on the move. Failing to use the Aim Action prior to firing a sniper rifle imparts a -5 Equipment Penalty to the attack roll. This is a natural byproduct of the fact that they use such heavy ordinance.

Sniper rifles require skill to use effectively, but they are lethal in the right hands and successful critical hits deal an extra die of damage prior to doubling the damage. Attacks with a sniper rifle also have an extended critical hit range by 1 ( ex: 20/x2 becomes 19-20/x3 ). However, anything other than a natural 20 is not considered an automatic hit; if you roll anything other than a natural 20 and still miss the target, you do not score a critical hit.

Sniper rifles often have a bi-pod and targeting scope mounted on them, but only the targeting scope comes standard on it.
