Prosthetics - Standard Organ Replacements

Organ failure and damage are among the leading health threats in the Local Spur outside of a bullet. And even then sometimes it is the bullet that does it. Kidney failure ( or theft ), a collapsed lung, or perhaps congenital heart disease can mean certain death for the sufferer without a transplant. But relying on an organ donor is a complicated matter; the surgery itself runs risks before even considering the possible rejection and subsequent infection.

Fortunately the advancement of medical sciences does not simply extend to broken bones and lost limbs. Since the middle of the 21st century, decellularization of biological matter combined with bio-organic printing has been able to replace a failed organ with significantly less risk than the previous standard of transplanting a volunteered or rescued organ, and with the invention of Medical Automass the process is almost entirely without risk at all. In a matter of hours a small amount of Sequenced Automass and donor tissue can be used to grow a replacement heart or lung, and less time for smaller vital organs such as the eyes or adrenal gland.

Though in cases where Sequenced Automass is unavailable, comparatively archaic cybernetic organs are required. Despite their outdated nature, they are still sometimes favored for their versatility; a cybernetic eye may improve vision conditions in darkness, or a mechanical lung may offer an oxygen reserve for less conventional environments. As is the case with all cybernetic implants, an individual with a cybernetic organ is vulnerable to Ion Damage, causing them to take half the amount of damage dealt as opposed to the quarter value of damage those without prosthesis and implants receive.
